Freshman Samantha Slade scored a goal assisted by Sabrina Viscuso in Placer’s 2-1 loss against Antelope Thursday at Railhead Park in Auburn.

Antelope took a 2-0 first-half lead in a game which both teams were missing several starters because of spring break.

Placer (3-7) called up junior varsity players Alicia Valdez and Grace Breckenridge for the contest.

“They filled in really well,” coach Steve cook said. “It was an overall good tune-up for our opening Pioneer Valley League match Monday. The girls are coming together. We’ll be ready to go.”

Cook was also pleased with the Lady Hillmen’s defensive play by Mikayla Lopez, Gisselle Bautista, Natalie Rowland and Valdez.

“They’re coming together,” Cook said. “We were missing two key components of our defense but our team still had a great second half.”

Placer hosts Foothill Monday at 4 p.m. and Center Wednesday at 4 p.m. Both PVL games are scheduled for Railhead Park.
