School bus crashes through fence into backyard
A school bus tore through a fence and into a backyard off of Boscal Circle and Richardson Drive in Auburn early Monday morning.
David Martinez, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, said the bus rolled 30 feet through a fence and between two houses and into a retaining wall while the bus driver was inspecting another bus. No one was on board the bus and no one was in the backyard at the time.
Martinez could not say what the bus was scheduled to be used for on Monday.
"The inspecting officer was really surprised because it completely missed the house and hit a retaining wall, so that was really lucky," Martinez said.
The bus is contracted by the Auburn Union School District through Durham School Services. No one with the school district could comment on the situation.
John Heckadon, general manager of Durham, could only say the incident is under investigation and could not say why the bus rolled through the fence Monday morning.
