School shooting underlines menace

Nature and life work in strange ways. Sam LaCara, principal at a Placerville elementary school, was shot by the janitor (Journal, Feb. 3). The students that loved this man and others of their generation will grow up seeing how deadly guns are and what a menace to society they can be. The shooting in Arizona seems in the distant past already and had little effect except as a distraction and to stir up controversy for a moment. Maybe the viciousness of gun violence closer to home will have some effect. Ron Lowe, Nevada City
