Senior Night a sweet one for Hillgals

A host of outgoing Placer High volleyball players celebrated their Senior Night on Thursday with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-8 win over Lincoln at Earl Crabbe Gymnasium. The victory clinched at least a share of the Pioneer Valley League title for the Hillgals (15-6 overall, 11-1 PVL) Middle blocker Julia Dorsey led the Hillgals with 13 kills and six aces. Kelsey Lardner had 23 assists and three aces, and fellow setter/right-side hitter Colleen Stafford finished with eight kills and 11 assists. Libero Carly Fox led Placer from the back row with 20 digs. Placer’s junior varsity team won 25-10, 25-14, while its freshmen won 25-7, 25-6. Colfax 3, Whitney 2 at Rocklin — Junior outside hitter Erika Heikila had 16 kills and seven digs as the Falcons (12-6, 10-1 PVL) defeated the host Wildcats in a three-hour marathon match, 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 15-6. Middle blockers Cassandra Campbell and Iona Lofrano added 11 kills apiece for Colfax. Campbell, a senior, also had a team-high five blocks and 19 points off serves, while Lofrano, a sophomore who also played setter, finished with three blocks and 11 assists. Sophomore setter Hailey Biles dished out a season-high 31 assists and also had nine digs for the Falcons. Senior defensive specialist Emily Bodily garnered a season-high 24 digs, senior libero Audrey Lewis added 17 more and junior defensive specialist Cassidy Gutierrez provided a spark off the bench with seven digs. Klang and Bodily each recorded 15 points off serves. Colfax’s junior varsity team lost its match in three games, while the Falcons’ freshmen won in two. Bear River 3, Mesa Verde 0 at Lake of the Pines — Middle blockers Sara Schell and Christie Nat recorded 10 kills apiece as the Bruins (9-20, 3-8 PVL) routed the visiting Mavericks. Schell, a freshman, also had five service aces. Bear River’s junior varsity and freshman teams each won their matches in two games. Both teams are now 10-1 in PVL play. Forest Lake Christian 3, Delta 0 at Lake of the Pines — Senior outside hitter Caitlin Hanson had a team-high eight kills as the Falcons (11-6, 8-3 Central Valley Christian League) routed the visiting Saints. Middle blockers Morghan Pomeroy and Ally Kirsch combined for 11 more kills, while senior setter Leslie Johnston finished with four kills and 13 assists. Defensive specialist Brittany Brown came off the bench in the second game and served for the final 13 points for FLC, recording seven aces in that span. Fellow junior Molly Huusfeldt, who played setter and outside hitter, had eight assists and four digs for Forest Lake. The Falcons’ JV team won 25-12, 25-8 and currently lead the CVCL with a 9-1 record.
