Senior Spotlight: Alexis Jenkins

-A +A
Editor’s Note: This is an occasional series spotlighting high school senior projects in the community. Name: Alexis Jenkins Age: 18 School: Del Oro High School What is your senior project? My senior project is the S.H.A.R.E.S cards for the Justine’s Fund. Every time you swipe it at Save Mart 3 percent of what you spend goes toward the fund. Cards are available at Save Mart Supermarket, the Auburn Journal, Auburn Blooms Florist and Alterations by Melody. (Editor’s Note: Justine Vanderschoot was murdered at the age of 17 by her boyfriend Danny Bezemer and his roommate Brandon Fernandez in September 2003. Since then her family has held an annual fundraiser in memory of Justine to raise money for Placer County law enforcement). Why did you choose that as your project? Justine Vanderschoot’s story really touched me. Her mom was my mentor throughout my entire senior project. It is about trying to prevent abuse in relationships. What college are you going to or hoping to attend? University of Nevada, Reno in the fall. Majoring in chemistry with minors in psychology and forensics What are some of your hobbies and interests? I golf and I was on the golf team at Del Oro. During the winter I snowboard. During the summer I travel to Arizona right by Lake Havasu. My aunt and uncle live there. What are your goals for the future? Right now I want to be a forensic psychologist, inspired by the TV show “The Mentalist.” I thought that was cool. If you have a senior project that you would like to share, e-mail jeniferg@auburnjournal.com. ~Sara Seyydin
