AUBURN CA - Investigators are alleging that the total amount of Auburn Elementary School Parent Teacher Club funds traced to embezzlement suspect Traci Lynn Bucher could reach more than $4,000. Bucher, 37, was arrested last week on allegations of theft and embezzlement from the Auburn Elementary School Parent Teacher Club. Bucher, who posted bail, served as president of the club last school year. Detective Jim Hudson of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that an investigation into purported misuse of a Parent Teacher Club debit card indicates a minimum of $2,200 was misappropriated. That figure may go as high as $4,200, he said. Bucher is scheduled to appear in Placer County Superior Court on Sept. 11 on theft and embezzlement charges. According to Hudson, the case revolves around a debit card Bucher had been issued by the club and allegations that she added personal expenditures onto transactions during the past school year. The club serves as a fundraising arm for the Auburn Elementary School, helping to pay for activities not funded by the Auburn Union School District. The non-profit club reported in its most recent filing with the California Secretary of State that it had revenues of $32,296 in the 2009-10 school year. The school district issued a statement Monday stating it “shares the concerns” of the school’s parent teacher club. “It is our understanding that the parent-teacher club officers have submitted information to the Placer County Sheriff for possible investigation,” the district stated. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office has yet to file formal charges against Bucher.
