Several area residents to face court time this December

The following is a schedule of notable December court appearances. The trial for former Placer County sergeant Paul Kovacich will return from a Thanksgiving break at 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday in Dept. 33 of the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. Kovacich is charged with murder with the use of a firearm in the Sept. 8, 1982 death of his wife Janet Kovacich. Anna Berset, 50,of Folsom, is charged with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident in the June 13, 2007 death of 15-year-old Courtney Parker of Granite Bay. Berset will appear at 8:30 a.m. Dec.4 in Dept. 13 located at the Placer County Jail in Auburn. Michael Lane, who pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon and admitted to an allegation of causing great bodily harm, is scheduled for sentencing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in Dept. 13 located at the Placer County Jail in Auburn. In March, Lane was charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing 21-year-old Britton Reed multiple times early in the morning of March 17 outside of Bob and Betty’s 160 Club on Cleveland Street in Auburn. Traci Gilson, 21, of Foresthill, will appear at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 17 in Dept. 31 at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. Gilson is charged with felony domestic violence with a special allegation of great bodily injury. The charge includes three separate felony counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and arson causing great bodily injury. The complaint also included three separate misdemeanor counts of petty theft, burglary and battery. The charges stem from a Nov. 14 incident during which Gilson allegedly tried to set her boyfriend, 19-year-old Allan Lane Scott, on fire. -Jenifer Gee
