Love is in the air, daytime temperatures are forecast in the 60s … why not spend Valentine’s Day weekend outside? Enjoy the sunshine and check out these Auburn-area festivities: A Taste of Chocolate Old Town Auburn gets ooey gooey as the Old Town Business Association and the Auburn Branch of the American Association of University Women present the fifth-annual A Taste of Chocolate, which runs from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Some two dozen merchants open their doors and sweeten up visitors with chocolate goodies Tickets are $20 for 10 tastes. Check-in locations are Mary Belle’s, 1590 Lincoln Way, the Old Town Dessert Café, 167 Sacramento St., and the Historic Placer County Courthouse, 101 Maple St. Buy your tickets and you’ll get a map listing all participating locations, a tasting “passport,” napkins, a fork, and a take-out container. The StringAlongs, a local ukulele group, are scheduled to perform during the event, and attendees should also keep an eye out for the Sugar Plump Fairies, who will be handing out free hugs. The Auburn Branch of the American Association of University Women is taking advantage of Sunday’s event to promote its “Shape the Future” membership campaign. Let’s get back to the chocolate and other treats associated with Sunday’s festivities. Visitors can fill out their passports to qualify for a 3 p.m. drawing. Special prizes include a “Chocolate Trio” necklace with champagne diamonds designed by Linda Roberts-Pierce of Sierra Moon Goldsmiths and a Roman glass necklace on a sterling silver chain donated by Catherine Rowe of OZ! Placer Hills Wine Tour Cupid’s got his arrows pointed at nine regional wineries during the Placer Hills Wine Tour, open noon to 5 p.m. Saturday-Monday. Participants include Baumbach Wines, Cristaldi Vineyards, Dono dal Cielo, Fawnridge Winery, Lone Buffalo Vineyards, Mt. Vernon Winery, Pescatore Estate Vineyard and Winery, Secret Ravine Vineyard and Winery and Viña Castellano. Try new releases such as Secret Ravine Vineyard and Winery’s first Barbera and Baumbach Wines’ Silhouette, a Charbono/Barbera blend. Keep an eye out for port chocolate sauce and barrel tastings at Fawnridge Winery. Lone Buffalo boasts three new releases and buffalo chili by Drooling Dog BarBQ.
