Sheriff’s funeral procession will go through town today

There will be a funeral procession through town this afternoon in honor of a departed Placer County Sheriff. 

Services for retired Sheriff William “Bill” Scott begin at 10 a.m. today at Parkside Church of the Nazarene located on 3885 Richardson Drive in Auburn. The public is welcome to attend. 
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office mounted unit and honor guard will pay tribute to Scott at the service. Following the service, a funeral procession will begin down Bell Road to Interstate 80, exit at Highway 49 then head toward Lincoln Way, turning in front of the police department, turn right on Maple Street and then back to the freeway. 
There will be a private internment at Newcastle cemetery. 
A 2 p.m. reception open to the public will follow at the Sierra Building at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn.  
Scott, who was born and raised in Auburn, was a World War II Army veteran and later was elected to serve as Placer County’s Sheriff. He held the post for 25 years.
