Kudos to Journal correspondent Jon Brines for a thorough report on the installation of Tami Uhler in her $92,000-a-year job as assistant director of the Placer County Department of Child Support (Journal, July 29). It is shocking that this important employment opportunity was not advertised to attract a strong, competitive field of candidates but instead awarded to Uhler by Troy Held, an official directly beholden to Supervisor Kirk Uhler, Tami’s husband. Stay on this story of insider trading in jobs because equal access must be a guiding principle of local government or it becomes corrupt and oppressive. Brian Hassett, Meadow Vista
