Shooting victim identified as Colfax resident
Randall Gene Center's death is under investigation
El Dorado County Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of Randall Gene Center, of Colfax, according to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jim Byers. Byers said an autopsy is being conducted today on Center, who had turned 25 on March 9. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 8:10 p.m. Saturday from a camper in the Union Valley Reservoir area reporting another person had been shot. El Dorado Sheriff’s and other personnel who responded to the incident via boat found the campers – and the victim – at the fishing lake located in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area of the El Dorado National Forest, about 40 miles northeast of Placerville. Identities of the other parties involved are being withheld pending further investigation. Center’s Facebook page states he lives in Colfax, is from Cameron Park and went to Ponderosa High School, and has been a watercraft operator for the U.S. Army Reserve since 2007.
