My husband and I moved to south Nevada County in 2009. Our initial encounters with our new neighbors in the Higgins Corner community convinced us we were ?home.? I come from a family of firefighters, peace officers and medical first-responders, so for me, joining the Higgins Fire Auxiliary was a no-brainer. Through the auxiliary I have gotten to know the firefighters and staff of the Higgins Fire Department, a truly dedicated and hard-working team! So I was saddened to learn that for the last few years these individuals have taken 28 percent cuts to their salaries and benefits, all in order to keep stations open and fully staffed. In addition, the fire auxiliary members work hard each year to raise funds for necessary non-budgeted items, like a jaws of life, defibrillator and air packs, so these men and women can safely put their lives on the line for us on every call. My time here has been short, but I know one thing for sure: Every firefighter in the Higgins Fire Department deserves your ?yes? vote on Measure B. In over 30 years of service they have never let you down. Please don?t let them down now. Wendy Reddish, Grass Valley
