Someone needs to ‘do the math’ in Auburn city office

-A +A
I’d like to set Mr. Hass straight (Journal April 1). I am one of the janitors who lost their job recently. I started out 16 years ago at $6.95 an hour and ended at $22 an hour. You do the math, Mr. Hass. I did not make what the city claims. I am grateful that I had a job and was able to make a decent living. Do you think because I was a janitor I deserve a lesser standard of living? The finance director along with the city manager who made the decision to lay me off assume they are going to save money as was stated in the Auburn City Council meeting on March 25. No one actually did the math. Maybe the city should hire a janitor to do the math for them. Eileen Somerday San Jose
