I am just overjoyed with the beautiful article you (Editor Deric Rothe) kindly wrote about Soroptimist, (Editor’s View, March 23). We work diligently to improve the lives of local women and girls in order to assist them in achieving a better life for themselves and families. Our work throughout the world has been well received, giving women a chance to become educated, allowing them to follow their dreams and become outstanding citizens. Our “panties project” still provides girls the opportunity to attend school in Kenya and now we are donating “solar cookers” to the women of Darfur villages, saving them from hideous crimes and death while gathering firewood to cook meals for the families. This is also saving trees and eliminating smoke from the environment. It is wonderful you, along with Ben (Furtado)’s great photography, have taken the time to write an editorial identifying the work of The Soroptimist International Club of Auburn.
