Squaw Mountain Run donates to Tahoe Forest Cancer CenterBy: Special to the Journal
Auburn Ski Club Training Center, organizer of the annual Squaw Mountain Run, has donated 20 percent of the event proceeds to cancer prevention.
Officials from ASC Training Center recently presented $3,000 to Tahoe Forest Cancer Center representatives.
Starting at the base of Squaw Valley USA (6, 200 feet), the course climbs the 3.6-mile mountain run to High Camp (8,200 feet) where the awards party is held.
The 33rd annual run was held on Aug. 2 and attracted 477 runners of all ages and abilities. Many participants are inspired to run in honor of family members battling cancer and share their thoughts on a prayer flag at the finish.
Squaw Valley USA has provided generous support year after year to the event and the cause. Other sponsors include Salomon, Cliff Bar and La Sportiva.
ASC Training Center is a non-profit organization and proceeds from the event benefit the junior cross country development and competitive programs.
The 34th annual Squaw Mountain Run will be held Aug. 2, 2014. More information can be found at auburnskiclub.com/nordic/summer-fun-runs.
