Stan Padilla an Auburn treasure

Saturday, Feb. 26, I attended an artist reception with Stan Padilla (Journal, Feb. 25). I remembered that about 20 years ago I attended a mosaic beading class held by Stan Padilla, a master art teacher and community leader, and began studying jewelry making. Through the years I remember Stan as he led walks down the Quarry Trail and the Sutter Buttes and explained herbs, pointing out the geological and social history of the areas. I remember healing and sacred drumming, artist receptions in Auburn and Nevada City, International Bread Celebrations and other community mixed-cultural celebrations and discussions of our cultures and those of the local Native Americans. The year my father died, Stan coincidently hosted a Commemoration of the Day of the Dead. My children have read Stan’s books, and my twins contributed, with Stan’s blessing, to his artist’s reception by playing the baby grand piano, spontaneously. We are lucky to have Stan Padilla as a master artist and community leader! Suzanne Del Sarto-Strauss, Auburn
