Country Music Hall of Fame musician, composer, and founder of the Texas Playboys, Bob Wills will be honored with a tribute concert by the Stardust Cowboys – an award winning Northern California based band, known for high energy and down home western humor.
Considered by music authorities as the co-founder of Western Swing, Bob Wills was universally known as The King of Western Swing and merged traditional country music with sophisticated jazz-influenced arrangements in the “big band” style. Of local interest Bob Wills was a long time resident of Sacramento and opened the Wills Point Nightclub in Sacramento in 1947 where Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys performed. Wills’ style influenced Buck Owens and Merle Haggard as well as the Stardust Cowboys. Performing with the Stardust Cowboys will be special guest, Dayna Wills - Bob Wills’ niece. “Bob Wills might still be the king of Western Swing, but now it’s his niece Dayna Wills who’s carrying on the family musical legacy”.
The Stardust Cowboys’ newly released CD is titled Honky Tonk Cowboy & the Desert Flower featuring original songs, bluegrass standards and an old-time gospel. Their originals are written distinctly in the Bob Wills-inspired cowboy swing flavor and about living life in the hardy setting of the western country. The Stardust Cowboys are stacked with song-writing talent and are honorees in Western Music, having energized crowds for more than 25 years at nightclubs, casinos, fairs, rodeos, regional concerts, cowboy events up and down the west coast. Check them out at their website at www.stardustcowboys.com.
