AUBURN CA - An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Placer County jail after apparently committing suicide, the Placer County Sheriff?s Office reported Monday. Peter Elliott, 51, was found at about 2 a.m. Sunday during a routine cell check with a sheet around his neck and his back on the cell door. Lt. Mark Reed said guards immediately started CPR and paramedics were summoned but life-saving efforts were to no avail. Elliott had been recently admitted to the jail on charges of domestic violence and public intoxication, Reed said. The inmate had been observed at 1 a.m. walking around his cell, Reed said. An autopsy was to be performed Monday afternoon to help determine a cause of death. At this time, the inmate?s death is being treated as an apparent suicide, Reed said. ? Gus Thomson
