Tea party a winning group

Gandhi once said “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” In March, Harry Reid told MSNBC, “The tea party is over!” I suggest to those who think the tea party is over, do a little experiment. Go to and type in tea party and you will find 1,067 related groups. The largest is in NYC with14,904 members. Tampa, Fla. has 2,016 members and then Raleigh, N.C. has 1,630. Now type in Barack Obama and then just Obama. You will see 68 and 139 respective groups related to Obama, the largest being in New York City with 1,288 members. Santa Monica has 795 members and Raleigh, N.C. has 685 members. Compare again in Facebook by doing the same thing. “Obama” has 42.5 million related pages. “Tea party” has 134 million related pages—over three times that of Obama. Numbers seem to defy Harry’s statement. More than 10 times more tea party activists in N.Y.C. (in a significantly blue state) than Obama groups, does not sound like a party soon to be over. It looks like we have passed the point where they laugh at you. Now comes the part where they then fight you, and then, the tea party wins. John T. Nightingale, Auburn
