On behalf of the Newcastle Fire Department and the Newcastle Fire District board of directors I would like to thank the Newcastle voters for their confidence and support in getting Measure B passed. The measure passed with 69 percent yes votes and there was a 62 percent voter turnout. It is a great feeling knowing that the majority of Newcastle Fire District residents and local organizations support the fire department and their community. Special thanks to the United Auburn Indian Community of the Auburn Rancheria, Newcastle Elementary School District Superintendent Kathleen Daugherty, School Board member and Measure B Campaign Director Michael Leydon, Newcastle Business Association, Newcastle Community Association, Golden Spike Lions Club, The Friends of Newcastle Fire, County Supervisors Jim Holmes District 3, Jennifer Montgomery District 5, Robert Weygandt District 2, Placer County Office of Emergency Services Rui Cunha, Cal Fire Unit Chief and Fire Marshall Brad Harris, Dave Mackenroth, Elliott Rose, Joe Irvin, Auburn Journal, Sacramento Bee, Teri Cox of Fox 40 News, Damany Lewis of KCRA channel 3, Newcastle Fire Fighters and staff and so many other individuals and businesses that there would not be enough space to list them all. Without the dedication and commitment of the many volunteers that helped get the yes vote out by making calls and visiting the residents, this measure would not have been a success. Now the hard work begins as we proceed with the task of building a new fire station to house our firefighters and equipment as well as a safe place for the community to visit for burn permits and conduct other business.
