Those blue bags cost money

Too bad Mayor Mike Holmes didn’t bother to calculate the additional expense incurred by the city and the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) using blue bags (Journal, June 28). Residents within the city limits of Auburn receive the blue bags free (at a cost to the city). Those who live outside the city limits must purchase the bags themselves. All waste materials received at the MRF are sorted and recyclable materials removed. Blue bags that arrive intact (many don’t) are pulled and processed separately at an additional expense to the MRF. The blue bags are not recyclable and end up in the landfill anyway. Kevin Brady, Auburn
