Time to help a local couple

On April 1, Back Country in Old Town Auburn was robbed by someone digging through the brick wall and cutting into the safe (Journal, April 22). The alarm didn’t go off, wires were cut. Back Country moved from Gold Country Mall a couple of years ago after suffering through six floods. In the recent economy, insurance was out of reach. Dave and Sue (Holtzinger) lost $40,000 in gold, silver and precious gems, the main income from the shop. In the past 22 years they have dedicated themselves to Auburn with school tours, non-profit work and teaching history of the rocks, minerals and gold that came from the area. Friends have opened an account to help them get back on their feet at U.S. Bank, 730 High St., Auburn, number 153465297346. Throughout the country a movement has been on to buy local. Dave makes reasonable repairs, can give you hints on the best panning locations and sells on consignment. When available, you’ll find gold (for purchase) from the American River. Thank you for your support, Laurie Johnson, Pittsburg
