Trust locals on Measure A

As a former mayor of Auburn and a gubernatorial appointee to the California Citizens Compensation Commission, I bring a unique perspective to Measure A. As a commission member, I voted to cut legislator pay and take away their expensive, taxpayer-funded cars because too many of them just didn?t do their job. They have, year after year, ignored the need to balance the state?s budget. In contrast, the Auburn City Council has continued a long tradition of balancing its budget every year and has a 33 percent general fund reserve. Measure A and more local control is the answer. We need to take every opportunity to shift power from the dysfunctional California Legislature to Auburn residents where it belongs. The Auburn City Council, with input from residents, should be the ones crafting ordinances from animal control to weed abatement that is custom-designed to meet the needs of Auburn. We need every tool in our toolbox to keep sewer bills and other construction project costs as low as possible. We need to support our wonderful volunteers from crazy and ill-conceived state mandates. Let?s work together for an even brighter future for Auburn. Vote yes on Measure A. Kathy Sands, former mayor of Auburn
