Steven Weaver has resigned from the Auburn Union Elementary School District board of trustees. Weaver submitted his resignation, effective immediately, to Auburn Union trustees and administrators and Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, Placer County superintendent of schools, Monday afternoon. Weaver was voted into a four-year term in November 2008, and said in his resignation letter that he feels his accomplishments fell short of his goal “to help all children receive an excellent education despite budget challenges.” “Over the holidays, I spent much-needed time with my family and reflected on the past year,” Weaver said in his letter. “I have realized that my accomplishments as a trustee fall far short of what I had hoped to achieve. In weighing that against the needs of my family, and relying on the wisdom of the Serenity Prayer, I believe it best to step back and focus on my family.” The district now needs to find someone to serve as an interim trustee until the November 2010 general election. Registered voters living within district boundaries are asked to submit a brief resume and a letter of interest to the board of trustees prior to Feb. 1. Information should be sent to the Auburn Union School District at 255 Epperle Lane, Auburn CA 95603. Qualified candidates are expected to make a brief presentation to the board during the Feb. 10 board meeting, to be held at E.V. Cain Middle School, 150 Palm Ave. Those seeking more information should call Michele Schuetz, district superintendent, at (530) 885-7242, ext. 8811. “We would like to thank Trustee Weaver for the time and effort he put in to support the students of Auburn Union School District,” Schuetz said.
