Trustees cut Skyridge middle-school program
The Auburn Union Elementary School District board of trustees voted Wednesday night to discontinue offering a middle-school program at Skyridge Elementary.
Trustees voted 4-0 in favor of discontinuing the program, which will save the district more than $240,000, according to calculations done by the district’s budget advisory committee. Board president Lynn Hargrove did not attend Wednesday’s meeting.
More than a dozen parents and other community members attended Wednesday’s meeting, some voicing their concerns about returning Skyridge to a K-5 program and sending all sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to E. V. Cain Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year. Others spoke on behalf of E. V. Cain and its programs.
