Senior Lane Turner’s pinch-hit, two-run double in the fourth inning put the Placer High baseball team ahead to stay Friday night in the Hillmen’s 5-2 victory over Colfax at Auburn’s James Field. Matt Dougherty pitched a complete game to earn the victory for the Hillmen (6-3, 5-0 Pioneer Valley League). The senior right-hander struck out six batters and walked four while scattering five hits. Shortstop Matt Ross and catcher Joel Thys each went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Placer. Two other seniors, center fielder Jordan Arndt and designated hitter Griffin Quick, were also 1-for-3. Defensively, junior third baseman Josh Klem made a stop that prevented two runs from scoring, and Ross threw out a runner after fielding a ball deep at short. For Colfax (1-5, 1-4 PVL), senior first baseman Cory Nann and senior pitcher/third baseman Kyle Paskey were each 2-for-4. Paskey took the loss on the mound. Senior shortstop Michael Miller had the Falcons’ only other hit.
