United States should exploit shale oil resources

With oil and gas prices rising every day; I can’t understand why we are not developing the estimated 1 trillion barrels of oil in the shale oil fields located in Colorado, Utah, South Dakota and Montana. We should have a strong energy policy that reduces our dependence on all carbon-based fuels. It is a matter of national security that we do so. Corn-based ethanol is not the answer, as it is a basic food product, coupled with the fact that it is not very efficient as it takes one unit of energy to produce 1.4 units of ethanol plus it gets fewer miles per gallon than gas.
