Competing against Division I and II teams, nearly all Forest Lake Christian varsity boys ran personal best times on the three-mile Granite Regional Park cross country course at The Other Meet Saturday morning in Sacramento. Senior Austin Violette sprinted past two opponents in the last quarter-mile to place 13th in a personal best time of 16 minutes, 42 seconds. Violette led the Falcons to a ninth-place team finish, ahead of Florin and Hiram Johnson. Even though Forest Lake was without its regular No. 1 and No. 2 runners due to illness and injury, the younger Falcons follow Violette’s lead to personal best marks. Zac Bagley took finished 57th in 19:23 and Travis Clough was 62nd in 19:39. Also finishing in the top six for the Falcons were Jacob Sidnam (69th, 20:06), Austin John (79th, 21:04, and David Herron (90th, 22:36). “We finished with a 4:22 gap for our first five runners, all setting personal best marks,” coach Nick Vogt said. “This is a good point to be as we begin our championship season phase. Our base conditioning is well on the way, and now we can develop some advanced racing strategy.” Beth Welty placed 35th overall in the junior varsity girls race, completing the two-mile course in 17:39. Stephanie Kubic was 37th and Bella Curtis was 41st. August Gonet ran a 12:59 on the JV boys two-mile course to place 20th. Luke Reed clocked 14:05 to finish 25th. The Falcons will run in the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on the Willow Hills course in Folsom on Saturday before hosting the Central Valley Christian League championship at Regional Park in Auburn on Oct. 28. Both the boys and girls teams are defending champions.
