Virginia Laverty turns 99

Virginia Laverty, a resident of Westview Healthcare Center in Auburn, celebrated her 99th birthday on March 29.

She was born in 1913 in Central City, N.M., to parents Grace and Luther Davidson.

The oldest of three girls, she is the only living daughter.

She is preceded in death by sisters Vida Mae Davidson Keene and Grace Myrtice Davidson Marshall. She was married to Chuck Laverty, who preceded her in death.

They had two sons, Jerry Ma-tthews and Dennis Matthews.

Jerry Matthews and his wife, Jan, live in England. They have three children – Stephen, Vicky and Chris – and two granddaughters.

Dennis Matthews passed away about a year ago. He leaves two sons, David and Mike.

Laverty was known to be very popular in the show dog world, having raised champion Shelties. The dogs won many blue ribbons.

She is loved by her extended family, who joined together to wish her a very happy 99th birthday.

Her expanded family includes four grandsons, one granddaughter, two great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
