Vital to take responsibility

-A +A

I totally concur with Grant Shaw’s letter (“America’s exceptionalism freedom-based,” Reader Input, Aug. 15).
The only thing I would add is that the courage to succeed or fail means taking full responsibility for oneself, which is what our forefathers did and that’s what enabled them to create this great nation.
In this country we also used to take responsibility for helping our neighbors when they were in need — and, thankfully, many still do. Allowing the government to take care of us will lead to the eventual destruction of this great country and our hard-won freedom.
