I want to congratulate Cheri March on her article titled “Pop the hood and learn a skill,” Journal, Feb. 23. She gave kudos to our great local Colfax High School courses, 49er ROP programs, Sierra College vocational/technical training programs. Cheri was also able to stress the idea that students really need to connect what they are learning in the classroom to their world. California high school graduation rates are higher with these students. They become more successful in other academic courses — raising their GPA overall. They begin to apply their knowledge — yeah! So, around to my opinion. It is important in every classroom that students can connect the relevancy of the subject matter to their lives. Everybody wins. Thank you, Cheri, for sharing something that really matters. Bobbi Jo Forsyth, Career Center, Colfax High School
