Wal-Mart the No. 1 front man

I have been against a Wal-Mart opening in Auburn since it first came to light. The one thing Wal-Mart has going for it is its marketing campaign. Wal-Mart definitely knows how to sell itself. It reminds me of the traveling snake oil salesman from the Wild West. He’d be smiling at you while thinking of all the ways he can swindle you. Personally, I don’t think Wal-Mart’s Pac-man style is what good old boy Sam (Walton) envisioned. The first and foremost reason I am against Wal-Mart is economics. Since Wal-Mart is the world’s largest retailer it is also the biggest buyer of Chinese goods. Wal-Mart purchases massive amounts of goods from China at a lower cost based on volume. This, in turn, allows their profitability to be much greater than other retailers. So the bottom line not only benefits shareholders/investors but the Chinese government. The Chinese government owns the corporations and enterprises in China. And last time I checked, China is still a Communist country, government-owned. The second reason I am against Wal-Mart is the fact that they discriminate against women concerning pay and promotions. Do you really want your spouse, daughter or sister working for a company that demeans women? Are you going to support the fact they work just as hard as their male associates and bring home less money? Here is another Chinese government connection — a government that openly discriminates against women. It is part of their culture. Wal-Mart, along with its Chinese government partner, is like a wildfire out of control, destroying everything in its path. They, together, are on a quest to own us lock, stock and barrel while smiling and telling us thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart. Auburn’s economic landscape will be drastically affected if Wal-Mart is allowed to come to town. Please take note of what has happened across our nation economically and will continue to happen as long as we support the Chinese government through Wal-Mart, the No. 1 front man.
