Weary of Gaines double-speak

We have yet another election coming up on Tuesday, May 3, at great expense to us, the taxpayer. We have to shoulder all this expense because our “fiscally responsible,” now State Senator, Ted Gaines, chose to run for two offices at once, setting up this ridiculous cost for his constituents. Now, to add insult to injury he has denied us, the voters in his district, an opportunity to vote on whether we want to extend existing taxes. The state budget cuts will drastically affect each and every one of us, our families, friends, neighbors and community, be it education, jobs, social services or infrastructure. We will not all agree on how to proceed on this issue, but we deserve to voice our opinion and vote. Gaines says he wants small government. Well, Senator, that means people should have a bigger voice. So again, he does the exact opposite of what he claims he stands for. I, for one, am tired of this double talk and sleight-of-hand. I will not vote for Beth Gaines. One Gaines is already way too expensive. I will cast my vote for Dennis Campanale. I hope you will, too. Gaines’ loss is our gain! Elinor Petuskey, Newcastle
