Weimar Hills grabs NCAL boys hoop crown

Warriors finish campaign at 22-7

For the third time in the past four years, the Nevada County Athletic League 's championship 8th grade basketball perpetual trophy as found its way to the Weimar Hills trophy case.

The Weimar Hills Warriors wrapped up a 10-2 league season and 22-7 overall campaign. Weimar Hills swept both Gilmore and Forest Lake Christian, it's nearest competitors, on its way to the crown.

In a pivotal season closing league league showdown, Mason Hurst poured in 25 points to spark Weimar Hills past Forest Lake Christian, 40-27. Marc Avila added six while Austin Weir and Jack Beeman added four points each.

Weimar Hills also competed in the 56-team Crescent City Tournament of Champions last weekend in Del Norte County. The Warriors finished fifth in the AA Division. Avila, who totaled 63 points in three games was tagged to the all-tournament team. Other top scorers included Hurst (53 points) and Weir (27 points).
