I am responding to the letter to the editor suggesting that “Central Square” be called a “plaza,” (Journal, April 4). Historically, the “plaza” is the “square” in Old Town between the post office and the Auburn Ale House (formerly American Hotel/Shanghai) where a public water fountain built of rock once stood. We all know that “Central Square” is a triangle. That is part of its charm. The new unofficial nickname for “Central Square” is “Clutter Corner.” DONNA HOWELL, Auburn
