State Sen. Ted Gaines has received much criticism for running for two offices this past November thereby forcing a special election to fill his old Assembly seat at considerable expense for the counties which make up the 4th Assembly District. Now comes Dennis Campanale, the Democratic candidate, who came in second in the special election and is on the ballot for the runoff election on May 3. But Mr. Campanale seems to be a stealth candidate: no ballot statement, no website, no campaign signs and unavailable to speak to community groups even though he has been invited. The estimated cost of the runoff election is over $500,000 for Placer County alone. It is Mr. Campanale who has forced this senseless expenditure of public fund. Why did he run in the first place if he had no plan to actively campaign? The world wonders. Mike Holmes, Auburn
