Why hesitate in pitbull put-down?

I certainly agree with Daniel Chauvin regarding the dog attack in Auburn (Reader Input, Sept. 25). It brings to mind an incident many years ago on our small farm in Pennsylvania. Our pet dog, without any provocation, bit my brother. Without hesitation, my father did the right thing and had the dog shot and killed. Why are the City of Auburn and our police force hesitating to do the same thing to the four pitbulls who attacked the young man from Weimar? Do we value the lives of dangerous animals more than the health and welfare of fellow citizens? The next time it could be a small child, with much more disastrous results! DAVE IMGRUND, Auburn
