Wildcat wrestlers looking sharp

The E.V. Cain Middle School wrestling squad is off to another excellent start as it prepares to go after a fourth straight league championship this week. Five Wildcats claimed gold medals at last weekend’s Mesa Verde Classic. Tom Thornton wrestled to first place at 65 pounds. Noah Graham won his second gold in as many weeks at 108. Will Tupin took first at 116 and Paul Banks won his second tournament of the season at 142. Carlos Vellas was also a repeat winner at 153. Gage Parada placed second at 57 one week after winning gold at the Louis Pasteur Winter Warm Up. Max Bone took silver and was also a gold medalist at the Winter Warmup at 70. Phil Thornton was the runner-up at 100 and Brenton McCracken placed second at 135. At 68 pounds, Gabriel Hamilton placed third. Paul Lenicki took bronze at 95 after winning Silver at the Winter Warm Up. Lauren Mason was third at 103 after earning second last week at 100. Karina Escalante placed third at 108 for the second consecutive week and Sam Marsch was third at 145. Marsch was the champion at the Winter Warm Up. Joey Kaufman also won gold at the Winter Warm Up at 72 pounds. Carlos Valles was a winner at 156.
