Wildcats claim first title in 20 years

The E.V. Cain Middle School wrestling team wrapped up its first league championship in 20 years Monday night, battling past Antelope Crossing 59-33. The Wildcats clinched a share of the Foothill Intermediate School Athletic League after finishing the season 10-2. They shared the title with Silverado of Roseville. E.V. Cain had its full lineup for the first time all season and took an early lead with pins by Landon Carp at 66 pounds and Steve Zehm at 70. The visiting Cougars fought back to take a 27-21 lead, but the Wildcats responded. Michael Valdez got an early pin at 122 to tie the match. Nathan Ralls got a pin at 128, followed by a decision by Casey Yunk at 135. Tony Survekropp won a decision at 132, Mike Robinson got a pin at 168 and Ryan Talley picked up a decision at 185. Jake Lewis got a pin at 205 and Eddie Vanderdoes won by pin at 235 to close out the match. E.V. Cain’s junior varsity beat Antelope Crossing 48-27 to wrap up the FISAL season with a 10-2 record.
