The E.V. Cain Wildcats finished fourth out of the 13 schools that ran in the season’s last Foothills Intermediate Schools Athletic League meet. The cross-country meet took place at William Jessup University in Rocklin last Tuesday, Oct. 12. The Wildcats qualified for the finals in all four divisions. Both boys and girls grades 6-7 made it to the finals as well as grade 8 for both girls and boys. The team’s combined effort brought E.V. Cain a hard fought top five finish against other schools with a much high student populace. To have qualified for the finals, runners had to run 13 minutes or faster on one of the previous meets 1.5-mile courses. It wasn’t easy considering the nearly 90 degree temperatures the runners had to endure as they ran the 1.5-mile course. For grades 6-7, seventh grader Lauren Mason had an outstanding finish as she finished third overall for the girls. Fellow seventh grader Andres Prieto finished third for the boys in the 6-7 catogory. Jose Rodriquez came in second for the eighth grade boys. Afterwards Rodriquez said he kept running regardless of his legs telling him to slow down. “I could not feel my legs in the end,” he said. “I just ran as fast as I could anyway.”
