Wildfires burn Cardinals

Senior Brianne Reed homered, tripled and knocked in four runs to lead the Foresthill High softball team past Woodland Christian 12-0 on Friday in Foresthill. Junior Corinne Nevares tossed a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the Wildfires improved to 3-1 in the Central Valley Christian League. The Wildfires are tied atop the CVCL with Forest Lake Christian. Foresthill rallied for 10 runs in the second inning to break the game open. Vacaville Christian 3, Forest Lake Christian 1 at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons suffered their second loss in CVCL play, falling into a tie with Foresthill for first place in the league. Arianne Von Zboray gave up just four hits and struck out nine in seven innings in the pitcher’s circle, but the Forest Lake offense never got going. Molly Huusfeldt had two hits for the Falcons, who scored their lone run in the fourth inning. Brittany Brown and Von Zboray had one hit apiece. Bear River 6, Folsom 3 at Lake of the Pines — The Bruins picked up an impressive non-league victory, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win. Junior Katie Mathis sparked the game-winning rally with a single. She stole second and scored on a double by Kathryn Rabak. Tori Humbard followed with a single. Pinch-runner Jen Brooks scored on a sacrifice fly by Sierra Pruss and a single by Brittani Nix scored Humbard. Mathis finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Humbard was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Bear River (10-2 overall).
