Wine for Wheelchairs raises over $5,000

Organizers hope it becomes annual community event
-A +A
Wine for Wheelchairs attendees helped make this year’s event a success with donating more than $5,000 to send to a national charity. The third annual fundraiser was by the far the most successful, according to Chris Packard, event organizer. “It was more than double last year,” said Packard, who owns Packard Financial and Insurance Services in Auburn. The May 28 event included wine tasting, finger foods and live music at the Foothill Estate in Auburn. The proceeds will be matched in part by the Rotary Club Foundation and then donated to the Wheelchair Foundation, which gives wheelchairs to those in need around the world. Mike Wilson, president of the Auburn Rotary, voiced strong support for the cause. “These wheelchairs are going to people who are literally crawlers,” Wilson said. “We’re having a dramatic impact on their lives.” Packard said he hopes the evening will grow in participation in the coming years. “I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone for their participation and making the event the success that it has become,” Packard said. “I hope that people will continue to support it in the future.” - Jenifer Gee
