Winter's over — Get back to the Canyon

Kickoff to spring is Saturday in Dutch Flat
-A +A
Join North Fork American River Alliance for its third annual kickoff to spring event at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in the historic auditorium of the Dutch Flat Community Center, 933 Stockton St. The event is free and will feature a presentation on hike-in fishing on the American River by river alliance Bill Carnazzo. Home-made desserts and beverages will be available. Carnazzo will discuss the canyon’s many streams, tactics that work, and practical fly selections. He has been back-country fly fishing for nearly 50 years, and conducts guided trips on the North and Middle Forks of the American River. Carnazzo is also an author and magazine columnist, and is working on a book on the Middle Fork. He is a master fly tyer and was recently awarded the coveted “Ned Long Fly Tyer of the Year” award by the Federation of Fly Fishers. When not guiding, Bill teaches fly tying classes, and on-stream clinics on nymphing and pocket water fishing. In addition to the presentation, river alliance board members will give updates on current projects and recent successes. The event will also offer an opportunity to learn about the North Fork American River Alliance, meet board members and discover more about the area's natural resources. There will plenty of time for questions and answers, and for socializing. Cowboy poet Bob Suter will also be on hand to share a few of his favorite poems.
