A head-on collision killed one Foresthill woman, and severely injured another Monday The accident occurred on Foresthill Road near Happy Pines Drive at around 7 a.m. Graciela Mata, 56, was driving a silver GMC Acadia SUV and traveling west on Foresthill Road when a white Chrysler Sebring traveling the opposite direction struck Mata’s car straight on, according to Dave Montijo, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. Mata was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with severe injuries, via an air ambulance, Montijo said. The driver of the Sebring, a 52-year-old female from Foresthill, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and died of her injuries at the scene, Montijo said. Her name is being withheld pending notification. The Placer County Coroner’s Office should release her identity once notifications are made. The collision is still under investigation and initially speed did not appear to be a factor, according to Montijo. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire, Foresthill Fire Department and Placer County Sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene. The accident closed Foresthill Road in both directions for about two hours.
