Women’s issues placed in spotlight

Beth McGovern, legislative director for California’s commission on the status of women, is the featured speaker at a free community education program “On Being a Savvy Advocate for Women and Girls.” This program will be held 1 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1279 High St. Please bring a canned or packaged food donation for the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet. Following dessert, the group will hear brief updates from Elaine Rowen Reynoso, Sierra College trustee, and Auburn American Association of University Women member Pam Robie Hart, who serves on the Placer County Board of Education. Jim McCauley, head of Placer County Elections Division, will also be on hand to discuss the May 19 statewide election. The “Easy Voter Guide,” published by the League of Women Voters, will also be available. Seats can be reserved by calling (530) 320-2559.
