-A +A
Residents can help keep fire risk down in Auburn by volunteering at an upcoming clearing event. The Greater Auburn Area Fire Safe Council is hosting a Project Canyon Safe volunteer work party from 7:30 a.m. to noon July 9 at the Overlook off Pacific Street to continue the shaded fuel break effort started last May at Robie Point. According to Councilman Kevin Hanley, chairman of the fire safe council, volunteers will work in small teams to carry cut branches to help clear the area below the Overlook. Recology Auburn Placer is scheduled to provide a barbecue lunch after the cleanup, and parking is available at the site, Hanley said. Those who are interested should register by July 1 to Hanley at (530) 906-1042 or e-mail Hanley said volunteers should dress in long pants, wear a long-sleeved shirt, dress in sturdy shoes or boots and bring gardening gloves. Residents can donate to the Project Canyon Safe effort by making a check payable to “Project Canyon Safe” and sending it to the Auburn Chamber of Commerce at 601 Lincoln Way, Auburn, 95603. ~Staff report
