Yunk, Placer roll past Mesa Verde, 14-1By: Journal sports staff
Luke Knoble pitched a complete game, Casey Yunk had four RBI and the Placer High baseball team romped past Mesa Verde Wednesday at the Cordova Easter Tournament, 14-1.
Knoble scattered six hits and gave up no earned runs in five innings of work.
“It was a very good outing by him,” said Hillmen coach John Hilton, whose team improved to 5-10 on the year. “He started today and was pretty much in control the whole way.”
Knoble kept Mesa Verde off balance by forcing tons of groundouts. Mesa Verde had no fly outs.
Yunk, one of nine Placer batters to record a hit, had a bases-clearing triple to bring in three runs in his 1 for 1 day at the plate.
Logan Markstein was 1 for 2 with two RBI and Collin Correnti was 1 for 1 with a double and two RBI.
“We had hitting throughout the lineup,” Hilton said. “The guys did a really good job.”
The Hillmen are scheduled to play a to-be-determined opponent Thursday at 10 a.m. in the tournament’s fifth-place ballgame.
