Secret Santa responds to letters insert
Today we published our Letters to Santa edition inside the Journal. In the insert, a little boy named Jose who attends the Boys & Girls Club of Auburn wrote that his family was poor, but he wished Santa would buy him a Playstation. I got a call a few minutes ago from Bob Kaiser of Newcastle who had read Jose’s letter and was touched by his plight. Bob told me if I could locate Jose, he would buy him the Playstation. So Carolyn Bergren, our classified advertising manager, looked up the kid’s original letter and found it on the top of a pile of dozens of entries when she opened the envelope (coincidence?). Carolyn then called Jana Iversen at the Boys & Girls Club, but Jana was out for the holiday. But, Carolyn happened to have Jana’s personal phone number handy (another coincidence?), and so she called her at home. When reached at home, Jana told Carolyn that she knew exactly who Jose was, and that she would try to hook up the needy boy with his secret Santa. This all took about a half an hour. So Bob might make the boy’s wish come true after all. Auburn magic? Coincidence? Secret Santas? You be the judge. We’ll let you know if Jose’s wishes come true.
