Hillmen pass PVL test in Colfax
The Placer High wrestling team picked up a big road victory Tuesday in its quest to clam back-to-back Pioneer Valley League championships. The Hillmen fought past Colfax 39-24 to set up a showdown with fellow 3-0 squad Bear River on Tuesday at Earl Crabbe Gym. Placer dominated the lower weight classes to take control of the match. Andrew Naleway had a major decision for the Hillmen at 112 pounds. Dalton Richardson prevailed in overtime at 119, Joe Thornton pinned Joe Procopio at 125 and Mitchell Maddox won a decision at 130. Carl Pavich was a winner by decision at 125 and Aaron Maddox picked up a pin at 135. Tyler Hickman won a decision at 171. Daniel Weathers fought for an overtime victory over Kale Orrmons at 189 for the Hillmen and Jake Styler had a pin at 215. Colfax (2-1 PVL) got a win from Tyler Rios at 103. Joe Peterson pinned Steven Cox at 145. Dan Lordier won a decision over Kyle Hennen at 160 and Robin Proffitt pinned Alec Rubio in the heavyweight match.
Del Oro 43, Woodcreek 28 at Loomis — The Golden Eagles got over a major hurdle in the tough Sierra Foothill League, improving to 2-0. Sophomore Mark Burriesci picked up a big pin at 119 to lead the way. Senior Connor Morgan had a second-round pin at 135 and senior Corey Johnson won by major decision at 140. Senior Jesse Stafford had a pin at 145 and sophomore Kevin Burrage won a major decision at 152. Senior Casey Schumacher scored a technical fall at 160, senior Bobby Gallagher pinned his heavyweight opponent and senior Justin McGuire won by forfeit at 215.
