Angie Ardito, left, and Maureen Tillack, were victims in the same fight near the Bob and Betty’s 160 Club. This weekend the Robie House is holding a fundraiser to offset Tillack’s costs for repairing damage to her mouth. Tillack lost her front teeth.

Some community businesses are rallying to help a long-time local pay her medical bills after a recent fight left her toothless.

Maureen “Moe” Tillack’s front teeth were knocked out and bones in her jaw broken when she tried to offer assistance to a fellow patron at Bob and Betty’s 160 Club in Auburn.

This weekend, the Robie House in Downtown Auburn will hold a fundraiser to help offset Tillack’s medical costs. Tillack, a former employee at the spa, said she can no longer work because of her injuries.

Following the altercation, Andrew Henry Ewing, 25, of Auburn, was arrested and charged with battery with serious bodily injury and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, both of which are felonies.

Ewing has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Defense Attorney Thomas Leupp declined to comment at this time until he had an opportunity to review the police reports.

He said Ewing is an engineer who has no prior record of assault.

Tillack said she was at the 160 Club on a Sunday night in late January with her family. She said they were enjoying friendly shuffleboard matches and dancing when she stepped outside for a few minutes to cool off.

“I was looking at the moon thinking this is so much fun and then I looked to my right and saw a guy hitting a girl,” Tillack said. “It was pretty close to me so I jumped up.”

Tillack said she remembers the woman was falling and Tillack said she jumped up to try to catch the woman’s head from hitting the ground.

She said what happened next is unclear. She doesn’t remember if the man kicked or punched her in the face but it knocked her out. When she woke up, she said her face was “split open” and her teeth were gone.

“It was crazy,” Tillack said. “I’ve never been through anything like this.”

Tillack said it will take about a year of reconstructive surgery to repair the damage.

She said for about the next six months, she will keep a hard wire in her mouth to prevent her loose teeth from falling out. She said the bones in her upper jaw and palate are “crushed.”

Tillack, who said she has lived in Auburn for the entire 50 years of her life, said she rarely goes to area bars.

“I’ve never felt unsafe in my town,” Tillack said. “I love Auburn.”
